What maintenance is required?

No driveway is totally maintenance free but a pattern imprinted concrete (PIC driveway) is as close as it gets. The colour hardeners dramatically reduce the effects of wear through usage. The solvent based acrylic lacquer does not allow the growth of moss or algae and it also prevents the ingress of dirt and stains. Your driveway can be power washed if extremely dirty however the occasional sweep off or rinse with a detergent is the most it will require. Keeping your driveway clean and occasionally resealing it is the best way to extend it’s life. The frequency of resealing depends mainly on the type of use it gets, once every 4 years should suffice under normal conditions.

Can PIC Driveways Be Laid All Year Round?

Yes, we are quite used to gauging the work load to accommodate the bad weather where possible. If the conditions prevent us from continuing for a day or two we will obviously keep you informed of any new schedules. We are able to cope with most conditions, however severe cold and rain will interrupt proceedings. Installing a PIC driveway is a slightly longer process in the winter and can generally take up to 5 days, frost however, does not really affect us until it reaches -8 degrees, which is extremely rare.

How strong is the concrete used?

The concrete used is in a PIC driveway is guaranteed to reach the same strength required for motorway concrete. In the summer we use 300kgs cement per cubic metre and in the winter 380kgs. All our
concrete is re-enforced and contains air entrainers for frost protection.

How thick is the concrete slab?

This depends on the ground conditions. We need to accommodate the PIC driveway concrete slab, which is usually 100mm-125mm thick for a standard driveway, and this needs to be laid on a solid sub base. The MOT Type 1 sub base can be anywhere between 150mm thick on unstable ground to making use of an existing solid, suitable existing base. Each installation is guaranteed to be a minimum of 25/30 Newton’s, the same strength used on motorways.

How do I deal with accidental spillages on my new driveway?

For most spillages including oil, something like washing up liquid is fine. However for paint or cement we are able to supply suitable chemical cleaners.

What happens if we have to have an area of imprinted concrete dug up ?

We are able to uplift and relay sections of PIC driveway, leaving the finished job with little or no colour difference.

Do you cut crack control joints?

Yes, crack control joints are cut in at regular intervals as recommended by British Standards (BSI). They are cut to a suitable depth of the slab. The object of crack control joints is that should a crack should occur in your driveway it will follow the direction of the weakened points ensuring that the crack never becomes visible.
